Hush n Wonder

fashion, food, and all things fabulous

I’ve never been one who is crazy about rules in the first place.  And rules that apply to fashion?  Well, those are just begging to be broken.  Below are a list of ‘fashion don’ts’ that are better off being utilized than avoided and some of the fashionistas that rock them best.

White Pants

I would love to know who thought white pants were only appropriate between Memorial Day andLabor Day.  In my opinion pairing white jeans and trousers with tall boots and chunky sweaters is a completely calssic look that everyone should try.  The result is crisp and slightly unexpected.

The Mixing of Black and Brown

Wearing a black dress used to mean you had to wear black shoes.  Black blouse?  Better find that black belt.  Well, not anymore.  In fact, I’m completely in love with paring black and brown together.  Nothing looks cooler than a casual LBD paired with brown leather sandals and a brown leather belt.

The Seperation of Silver and Gold

I am forever yelling at my friends to wear silver and gold.  At the same time!  Have a great pair of gold earrings?  Wear them  with your favorite silver bracelet.  Just make sure the look is purposeful.  To balance it out, layer on your favorite gold and silver necklaces. Same goes for clothes – if you’re wearing a gold dress do silver jewelry to make a statement.

Print on Print

What you wear should be interesting.  And what’s more interesting than sporting a few great prints?  I wish there were some steadfast rules that make print mixing an easy go-to.  But there isn’t.  I’ve found it’s a process of trial and error, and you have to try things on and trust your judgment.

Leather in the Summer

Traditionally, when the weather gets wearm, our leather and suede pieces go into hibernation.  But this is no longer the case and we’re seeing lots of leather this summer.  I’m especially loving the leather shorts trend.  They are extremely versatile and can be made to look more rocker chic or more polished.  They’ll also look great this fall and winter with tights.
