Hush n Wonder

fashion, food, and all things fabulous

Tag Archives: Elie Tahari

New York Fashion Week starts tomorrow, and from the reviews I’m reading, it’s going to be one to remember.   Forget minimalistic pieces and simple basics.  Designers are wanting to wow with looks never seen before in an effort to fill people’s closets with new trends.   Past seasons have reflected the economy, but now it’s time for people to get dressed up and go out on the town.   A trend I think we’ll all welcome back.  When asked, many designers are stating that their collections will hold a lot of “fantasy” and “escapism.”  I for one, can’t wait to see what Fall 2011 collections will look like!

I’ve found the most awe-inspiring makeup trends from the runways of fall 2010 collections and found ways to make them everyday appropriate.  From glowing skin to two-toned eyes, below are the trends that you’re not going to find in every other beauty magazine.

Two Toned Eyes as seen at Elie Tahari

This look is so fresh.  Pick two of your favorite shadows, one for the top lid, and the other for dusting below your lower lash line.  If you have smaller eyes like I do, and can’t handle a lot of makeup, try a colored liner for bottom lids. This look is meant to be funkier, so don’t shy away from bright colors.

So, maybe we can’t all pull off this intensly, purple lip.  But we can take some cues from the richness of this shade.  For a sublter berry-stained lip try Clinique Different lipstick in Surprise.  Also, play around with purple eye shadows, mascaras and eyeliners for a truly fall-appropriate look.

Copper Penny Eyes as seen at Brian Reyes

To achieve this look, apply a copper colored eyeshadow to your top lid.  Then, to make it pop, add a light blue eyeliner to bottom lids. Keep cheeks and lips simple.  I recommend Nars blush in Orgasm for a subtle glow and naked lips.

Orange/Red Lips as seen at Vena Cava

Orangy red lips couldn’t look hotter with a fading summer tan.   Keep eye makeup minimal and let skin glow by dusting on a bronzer.  I’m especially fond of this look because it’s a little more fun and flirty than traditional bright red lips and is an unexpected color this fall.

Glowing Black Eyes as seen at Diane Von Furstenberg

For this dramatic look, start with your favorite smokey eye (and make it a bold one!)  Once done with that, take your favorite shimmer powder and apply it to the inside corners of your eyes.  Lighter colors show up best.  Keep lips nude – my favorite gloss is Chanel Glossameir in Beige Guitar.

Think barely there makeup plus a shimmery glow.  Flawless skin is important here, so make sure to use a good primer and foundation.  I’ve yet to find a better foundation than Estee Lauder Double Wear Light (if you need more coverage get regular double wear, for a little less go for Nutritious Vita-Mineral Makeup).   Then accent eyes with a barely there shimmery shadow.

Tribal Tones as seen at Jeremy Scott

You might not want quite as much liquid eyeliner as Jeremy Scott’s models  are sporting, but the idea is to think outside the box.  Extreme winged cat eyes are so in, and paired with a metallic shadow, the look couldn’t be edgier.  I’m also very fond of the the cool, shimmery blushes that are making a comeback and they look great paired with extreme eyes.

Essie's Merino Cool

Nails this season are as polished  as the looks that have hit the runway.  Keep nails short and more round than square (this elongates the look of your fingers).  I’m in love with Chanel’s newest color Paradoxal.  It goes on a mix between violet and grey and is the perfect shade to welcome in fall.   OPI’s new line of matte polishes are also making headlines.  My favorite is Russian Navy, but it also comes in the ever so popular Lincoln Park After Dark and La Paz-itively  Hot.  And as always, Essie is the king of colors with its fall collection of cool greys and warm browns and reds.

Hottest of Hair

This season, it’s all about the hair of decades past.  Louis Vuitton’s models rocked 50’s inspired pony tails. The hair is sleek, and ponys were curled to give an extra polished look.  Nina Ricci’s trend was Brigitte Bardot inspired volume.  Think high crowns (you could use a Bump-it!) and straight ends.  Chloe’s models sported 70’s-esque center parts and softly curled ends.  Very Winnie Cooper.
